Sixteen years ago I found a stranger’s baby in a car trunk — I never imagined she’d been left there for me.

I’d been able to do it myself. Use it, don’t use it — that part is yours to decide, the same as everything else about her has been yours to decide for sixteen years.

What I am asking, and it is the only thing I am asking, is whether I might someday meet her. Not today. Not this month, if that’s too soon. Whenever — if ever — feels right to both of you.
